The PDC network’s wider service area will mean that FOMA users will be guaranteed nationwide access to mobile services, despite delays to the launch of dual-mode handsets. Owning both a PDC and FOMA handset will not result in the duplication of fees, as the PDC handset can go on their FOMA service contract.
Users will have to supply their own PDC handset and pay their communication charges for the month. DoCoMo is hoping that the service will encourage the uptake of FOMA services, since their PDC phones will still be useable on the dual network service.
