Around 100,000 handsets are reported lost or stolen each year in Australia. The anti-theft technology deployed by Telstra will render stolen Telstra handsets inoperable on its network and virtually worthless to thieves.
Optus and Vodafone Australia are also preparing to block stolen handsets, and from March of next year the three operators will share their databases.
