The Trust Centre will be the first of its kind in Australia and will enable corporate and government clients to cost effectively outsource their online trust and security solution needs for business transactions requiring security to occur online.

Telstra’s Emerging Business Executive Director, Mr. Gerry Sutton, said that this arrangement would now enable Telstra to confidently pursue opportunities for the provision of secure transaction services in both the government and private sectors, especially where the highest levels of trust are required.

The SecureNet arrangement will enable us to offer our corporate and government clients a comprehensive solution to their security requirements for online business applications, which is cost effective. To date, the cost to businesses of providing a high standard of transaction security themselves has been one of the major impediments to uptake of e-commerce applications within Australia , he said.

He added This relationship will compliment the existing activities of both Telstra and SecureNet, particularly in the use and issuance of digital certificates and the application of Public Key Infrastructure technology.

Managing Director of SecureNet, Geoffrey Ross, said he was delighted with the arrangement which will allow the company to rapidly expand its client base domestically, using the breadth of experience gained through its e-commerce platform developed with the leading telecommunications provider and major commercial organizations in Asia.

Our experience in Asia has re-enforced our view that a specialized Trust Centre, incorporating the latest technology and services is a far more cost effective and less risky approach for those wanting to provide secure online business applications than doing it themselves. Our customers can focus their attention on their core businesses, not ours, he said.

The Trust Centre will offer core functions of customer identification, permission management and transaction authentication along with a range of support services including integration services for Telstra’s clients, he said.

Mr. Ross said the Trust Centre will focus its early attentions on the business-to-business and business-to-government sectors.
