The BREW platform is a thin, standardized applications execution environment introduced by QUALCOMM to allow rapid development of a wide variety of applications that users will be able to download from carrier networks over the air onto any BREW-enabled phone.

We are pleased to work with Unicom Horizon. Their desire to adopt the BREW platform opens the door to innovative wireless services for its consumers, said Dr. Paul E. Jacobs, group president, QUALCOMM Wireless and Internet Group. We expect that our relationship with Unicom Horizon will allow subscribers to choose and download software applications that run on the BREW platform and give users the ability to personalize their handsets with the applications and services they find most useful. This will take Unicom Horizon’s service far beyond just basic telephony.

Unicom Horizon plans to make BREW-enabled services available early next year, offering subscribers a selection of wireless applications including banking, weather and news services, gaming, chat and e-commerce, that they will be able to download and access quickly and easily over the air on their handsets.

With QUALCOMM’s technology supporting Unicom Horizon’s new wireless application offerings, our subscribers can access applications and services they never before considered, said Wang Ying Pei, chairman and general manager at Unicom Horizon. We see our agreement with QUALCOMM as a strong movement toward providing our subscribers with broad new ways to enjoy entertainment and services from their cell phones.
