Salesforce and Box are working together in order to help businesses and developers to be more collaborative.
The two companies have introduced Salesforce Files Connect for Box and a developer toolkit which has a Box SDK for Salesforce.
The idea behind this is not only to help aid collaboration but to also make both businesses and developers more productive.
Salesforce Files Connect for Box will enable Box users from the Salesforce platform to search, browse, access, and share Box files from any device.
Typically a challenge of this would be matching permissions and security, but the companies say that users will maintain existing permissions and security of the original file.
Content on Box will also now be capable of being connected directly to records, users and groups within Salesforce. The companies suggest the example of a sales rep being able to collaborate with a product marketing manager on collateral stored in Box.
The Box SDK for Salesforce element of the work between the two companies is a toolkit for developers that is designed to enable developers to use Box content management with any app that is built on the Salesforce App Cloud.
The SDK will also enable developers to embed Box’s content management functionality into Salesforce processes and customisations.
Salesforce Files Connect for Box is currently in pilot, so only select customers are currently using it, but it is expected to be generally available in the summer of 2016. It will be made available via the Lightning Experience, Salesforce1 and the Aloha User Experience.
