Reuters reported that the Microsoft Zune, which is due to be launched this autumn, will feature up to 30 free songs provided by major and independent music labels.
Artists whose songs feature on the Zune will be used as part of advertising and promotional material.
SanDisk is another manufacturer that will preload songs into its digital music devices. Over 32 hours of subscription-based major-label music will be preloaded into the firm’s Rhapsody music players.
The preloading concept originally started with retailers looking to improve the try-before-you-buy experience, as, without songs, customers were unable to compare sound quality, interfaces and screen resolution.
