According to the agreement, AT&T will upgrade Winterthur’s network to a uniform platform for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services. The technology will unify three legacy systems and is expected to provide a more centralized IT team to manage its network.
Kathleen Rowe, senior vice president for Winterthur, said the company deployed AT&T to replace its existing voice infrastructure and to improve services to its front offices while streamlining operations.
An IP-based converged networking environment is thought to provide access to features such as integrated messaging capabilities, voice e-mail, bandwidth on demand and web-based voice portals. IP telephony also offers simplified provisioning, moves, changes or additions of individual phones.
