The offering features the PureMessage product from Abingdon-based Sophos, which includes AV, AS, anti-phishing, content filtering and policy enforcement, with the server-based Universal encryption package from PGP, which is based in Palo Alto, California.
Kevn Bocek, product marketing manager for PGP, said the deal with Sophos follows a pattern of alliances with email security vendors to whom his company can bring its encryption capabilities, with the partners becoming an additional route to market for PGP. CipherTrust and IronPort both resell the PGP technology, as does content monitoring and filtering vendor Vontu Inc in North America.
The attraction of this go-to-market strategy for PGP, aside from the obvious widening of its channels, is that customers can do multiple forms of encryption, starting with email, then add hard disks and their BlackBerry service.
