The iDeal payment standard was introduced in the Netherlands last year in order to offer buyers and retailers on the internet, greater security with regard to online payments.

The banks said that they chose Atos due to its track record of implementing major projects on an international scale. ING said that is was particularly impressed with the supplementary functionalities Atos included in the platform and the speed with which it was able to complete the system. Bank-specific adjustments mean that the system can also be used on a European and international scale.
