After a relatively quiet year, the Redwood City, California-based company announced last week that its Intalio/BPMS 4.3 is the first platform of its kind to offer support for gamut of process management standards like BPMN, BPEL and BPEL4People.

Ismael Ghalimi, founder and CEO of Intalio said the development and promotion of BPM standards has always been a priority for the company.

Intalio said it co-authored the BPMN (Business Process Modeling Annotation) and BPEL (Business Process Execution Language) standards with IBM Corp and Microsoft Corp.

The companies worked together on BPMN as part of a project coordinated by the Object Management Group. The standard helps bridge the collaboration gap between business users and IT across various process development steps.

Version 1.1. of BPMN was released by the OMG earlier this year.

Intalio/BPMS 4.3 also offers support for versions 1.1 and 2.0 of the BPEL specification.

Intalio said it’s CTO Assaf Arkin co-authored the BPEL standard that was developed by the OASIS (Organization for the Advancement of Structured information Standards) consortium.

Last December Intalio jump started its BPEL development after buying FiveSight Technologies Inc, a Chicago-based BPEL orchestration tools firm last December.

FiveSight was the company that first brought the open source Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) 2.0 specification, which is an emerging standard for defining business process and interaction protocols, to market.

Intalio, which had bet heavily on BPEL, said the acquisition saved it around a year of development effort. Intalio has since integrated FiveSight’s technology it into its core BPM offering.

As a complement to these two standards, Intalio/BPMS 4.3 also most of the workflow patterns defined by the BPEL4People model that was proposed by IBM and SAP AG.

The release also embraces Eclipse 3.2, Geronimo 1.1, XForms 1.1, XPath 2.0, and XSLT 1.0 are also part of this release.

Intalio has also revamped the platform’s graphical form designer and included a new real-time process monitoring interface.

Intalio’s Zero Code development approach means that BPMN process models can automatically be translated into BPEL processes that can orchestrate transactions with existing systems through a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and interactions with end-users through a Web-based workflow interface.

Last month Intalio added business activity monitoring capabilities to its BPM platform, courtesy of technology integration with Celequest Inc.

Founded in 1999 and privately-held, Intalio now has over 4,000 customers worldwide. The company said openness and broad standards support of its platform have helped drive adoption.
