The digital security firm says that, as a provider of FIPS 201 compliant devices, applets, middleware and card management services, it is committed to delivering a platform for secure access and security solutions to the federal government.

Gemalto has supplied more than 12 million microprocessor-based smart cards to several government agencies, including the Department of Defense, which has deployed 11 million of its common access cards.

Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12, or HSPD-12, mandates that all US federal agencies begin to issue their employees and subcontractors personal identity verification II cards.
