Taiwan’s Market Intelligence Center said the industry was boosted by a Centrino effect, with Pentium-based devices taking almost half the market. The share of thin and light models advanced at the expense of all-in-ones and desktop replacements. Intel price cuts and looser LCD supplies should mean price cuts in the third quarter.

Growth in desktop PCs was slower, with total shipments hitting 8 million units, up 22.3% on the year, and down 2% sequentially. Total shipment value was $2.1bn, up 25.1% on the year, and down 4% sequentially.
