The deal will enable Libyana to expand its existing network from 1 million lines to 6.5 million lines. Libyana is one of two mobile phone operators owned by the General Post and Telecommunication Company,GPTC.
Since 2005, ZTE has won similar contracts in Nigeria, Algeria, Lesotho, Ghana, Venezuela, Malaysia, and India. Earlier this year, it signed a deal with Libya Telecom & Technology to build a WiMAX network covering eight major cities in Libya, including capital Tripoli. In July, it won a contract from Ethiopia Telecommunications to build a national network in Ethiopia providing next-generation services in 14 cities.
