SophosLabs is Sophos’s global network of researchers and analysts that attempts to protect business from malware, viruses, rootkits, spyware, phishing, spam and scams. Its centres are located in Oxford, Boston, Vancouver and Sydney to enable 24 hour monitoring and quick response to security threats.
By joining the Microsoft Active Protections Program (MAPP), SophosLabs will be provided with advanced warning of Microsoft’s monthly security update. The information will be shared in a secure and confidential manner to stop it being used maliciously.
Mark Harris, global director of SophosLabs at Sophos, said: “Microsoft’s new initiative should be applauded as it will provide us with valuable information that we can use to update our products and ensure our mutual customers are defended against new vulnerabilities. With cybercriminals constantly on the look for new vectors of attack, it is important for the industry to work together to keep ahead of the fraudsters. MAPP is a strong step in the right direction.”
Sophos hopes that by utilising this service, it will be able to offer customers a better level of security.
The IT security and control firm will join the likes of Symantec, MessageLabs, McAfee, IBM and Cisco as a partner in the Microsoft Active Protections Program.
“There’s more to the Microsoft Security Response Center than security updates – we’re working to protect customers from emerging threats,” said Mark Miller, director of Microsoft’s Trustworthy Computing product management. “The Microsoft Active Protections Program is one example of how Microsoft is continuing to work with partners to help better protect our mutual customers and deliver some of the world’s best security response.”
