The investment continues an alliance between the two companies announced earlier this year when Microsoft started to support Move’s video streaming technology in its Silverlight cross-browser video platform.
Move will now start to support Windows Server-based encoding, Microsoft codecs, and Silverlight’s digital rights management to enable companies to deliver TV programming online with customizable navigation.
Other investors in Move include Benchmark Capital, Cisco Systems, Comcast Interactive Media, Steamboat Ventures, and Hummer Winblad Venture Partners. Its clients include media companies ABC, Discovery Communications, ESPN, Warner Brothers, and Fox.
Move CEO John Edwards said: Our close relationship with Microsoft demonstrates their confidence in our ability to unlock the tremendous potential of internet television for audiences, media owners, advertisers, and service providers.
The investment also gives a boost to Microsoft’s Silverlight, which is facing competition from Adobe’s Flash.
