The New York-based company’s Xandros Server Standard Edition 2 is primarily aimed at small and medium-sized businesses, and provides compatibility with Windows domain and networking technologies to improve the potential for adoption in Windows-heavy environments.
The new version is based on Debian 4 and includes a version of the Xandros Management Console, xMC, which enables administrators to manage Xandros servers from a Windows XP of Vista PC.
The product also comes bundled with version 11 of Scalix’s mail and messaging platform, following an agreement the two companies struck in March. Scalix offers support for Microsoft’s Outlook email client, as well as its own web-based email client.
Pricing for Xandros Server Standard Edition 2 starts at $450 and the product is available to download now. A boxed version will be shipping within 30 days.
Founded in August 2001 when it acquired the former Linux business from Corel, Xandros focused on the desktop Linux market until May 2006 when it introduced its first server variant. The company has recently diversified into Linux systems management via its BridgeWays project, which is expected to bear fruit in the spring.
