The deal is expected to boost TI’s line of low-power RF chips for industrial, commercial and consumer applications.
Integrated Circuit Designs, in addition to its core analog IC design IP portfolio, has capabilities in physical layout, test engineering and project management. The company, which founded in 1995, is privately-held, based in Ellicott City, Maryland and employs 16 workers.
Dallas, Texas-based TI previously acquired Chipcon, which makes RF transceivers for ZigBee and proprietary-based wireless systems, to help build out its low-power RF portfolio.
With the rapidly growing demand for industrial, commercial and residential systems to incorporate more short-range wireless technology, it is important for TI to provide a broad portfolio of innovative RF devices, said TI’s precision analog business manager David Jones.
