The integrated suite of tools is branded as Server Studio and Sentinel R 6.1 and is available in several editions sold by both IBM and AGS. The tools help DBAs to manage multi-platform IDS deployments, providing performance monitoring and tuning, debugging, security and auditing, and data storage management capabilities through a single console interface.
IBM hopes the tools will ramp up migration to its recently rolled-out IDS 11 (codenamed Cheetah) database platform designed to support clustered data centers with continuous availability and disaster recovery.
One early adopter of the systems management tools is Bank of America, which runs one of the world’s largest distributed data centers for financial transaction processing.
Both the New York-based companies have been close partners since 2000 after IBM became a distributor of AGS’ Studio software as the preferred database development and administration tool for its Informix database server line.
The basic edition of Server Studio is free to IBM IDS customers who pay for greater functionality in premium editions that are sold exclusively by AGS.
