The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) will guide and manage Taiwanese economic development and facilitates technology creation and adoption. It will also work to attract telecommunication and information technology companies to partner with Taiwanese businesses to promote innovative technologies.

The Taiwanese government has allocated resources to build the WiMAX ecosystem. Through its M-Taiwan initiative, Taiwan will deploy broadband wireless infrastructure and life-style applications based on WiMAX technology. The government allocated $300 million for WiMAX-related investment under the M-Taiwan project, which runs though 2008.

Steve Chen, minister of MOEA, said: Taiwan is looking to take a market leadership role in WiMAX technology development and deployment. As we look to promote and facilitate WiMAX in Taiwan, having industry leaders as partners will be essential. Working with Starent Networks is a logical choice, as they are seen as one of the world’s leading Mobile WiMAX technology providers.
