Taiwan-based Chunghwa Telecom has reported revenue of NT$49.7bn for the second quarter of 2010, an increase of 3.3% compared to the same period last year.
EBITDA for the quarter decreased by 2.3% to NT$23.5bn and operating income remained flat at NT$14.9bn , compared to the same period a year ago.
The EBITDA margin and operating profit were 47.3% and 30.0%, respectively, compared to 50.1% and 31.1%, respectively, for the same period of 2009.
The company’s net income rose by 12.7% to NT$12.9bn for the second quarter of 2010, primarily due to revenue growth and the lower income tax rate.
As of 30 June 2010, the company’s broadband subscribers reached 4.3 million and mobile subscribers increased by 4.5% to 9.4 million and HiNet subscribers totaled 4.07 million.
Chunghwa Telecom chairman and chief executive officer Shyue-Ching Lu said that despite the mandated National Communications Commission tariff reduction effective April 1 this year, consolidated revenue increased 3.3% to NT$49.7bn during the second quarter of 2010, mainly due to higher handset sales and increased revenue from both mobile value-added services and Internet services.
"Our prudent cost management initiatives enabled us to deliver stable operating income, and the income tax reduction from 25% to 17% starting from 2010 resulted in a 12.7% year-over-year rise in net income to NT$12.9bn," Lu said.
