Cricket Communications, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Leap Wireless International, has launched the Sanyo ZIO Android phone by Kyocera.

The new Sanyo ZIO features a 3.5inch WVGA touchscreen and runs on Cricket’s all-3G. It uses CDMA2000 1xEV-DO rev. A and Wi-Fi network technologies and offers an internal memory of 512MB, with support for an additional 32GB through its microSD memory slot.

Cricket said that Sanyo ZIO features a trackball that helps users navigate features such as the 3.2 MP camera with video record/playback, media player, full HTML web browser, Google Maps and widgets and applications such as Facebook, Twitter, Open Table and more available in Android Market.

Kyocera Communications vice president of sales Eric Anderson said that ZIO is the first in a series of Android devices the company will bring to market and it is to partner with Cricket to set the standard by offering a smartphone device that encourages individuality for customers.

The new Sanyo ZIO by Kyocera is available online at Cricket-branded retail stores, dealers and at its website without a contract for $249.99.
