General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), a business unit of General Dynamics, said that it has been awarded $21m in task orders through the Installation Information Infrastructure Modernisation Program (I3MP) contract to upgrade the voice telecommunications switching capabilities at two US Army bases, which include Fort Carson in Colorado, and Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.
The company said that it will engineer, furnish, install, test and cut over into operational service (EFIT&C) a full range of government certified telecommunications systems, including voice, transport and data networks.
General Dynamics claimed that this effort will result in modernised voice systems that pave the way for future convergence of Army voice and data networks. The task orders cover a two-year period of performance.
Zannie Smith, senior vice president of the Army Solutions Division at GDIT, said: "General Dynamics has successfully completed infrastructure modernisation projects for the US Army for more than ten years.
"This extensive experience will enable us to provide timely and efficient support to Fort Carson and Redstone Arsenal which will enhance communications for military personnel stationed at those facilities, thus enabling the cooperation, quick response and seamless operations necessary for mission achievement and warfighter readiness."
