Cisco has launched new technologies build on its Connected Grid portfolio, that allows consumers and businesses to monitor and manage their energy consumption for cost and carbon savings, along with an interface for the home environment.

The Cisco Home Energy Management offering features a Home Energy Controller along with Energy Management Services that are designed to help consumers to know their energy use.

Additionally, the company has also announced updates to its Smart Connected Buildings portfolio, including the new Network Building Mediator Manager 6300, that allows centralised management of Smart Connected Buildings across global enterprise operations, and the new Network Building Mediator 3.1, provides the platform for linking multiple disparate building automation systems and protocols over Internet Protocol.

Further, the company unveiled new demand-management tools that are a part of Connected Grid offerings designed to address energy concerns and help utilities more reliably and efficiently deliver power from generation to businesses and homes.

The new offering enables corporations to connect, monitor, aggregate and manage distributed networks of Network Building Mediators, and integrating building systems within a particular facility via a central enterprise portal.

The Network Building Mediator Manager features include a global navigator and global alarm monitoring capability for centralised event management; tools to define global schedules and set points that apply across all of an enterprise’s facilities; building automation protocol support; improved BACnet features and EIB (KNX/IP) protocol; and enhanced security with Pluggable Authentication Modules (PAMs).
