STMicroelectronics has introduced a three-axis digital MEMS accelerometer which it claims as the thinnest in the industry. The LIS302DLH device measures 0.75mm in height and shares the 3 x 5mm footprint of other devices in ST’s Piccolo MEMS family.

According to the company, its digital three-axis accelerometer offers motion sensing, orientation awareness, free-fall detection and vibration monitoring.

The low-voltage operation product has a power-saving shutdown mode, and wakes automatically when motion is detected.

In addition, the integrated digital circuitry outputs acceleration measurements range up to +/-8g in the industry-standard I2C/SPI serial format, allowing direct connection to the system processor with no external components required. The LIS302DLH is also compatible with other 3-axis devices in ST’s Piccolo digital family, including the LIS302DL and LIS35DE.

The company informed that the samples are currently available and mass production is scheduled for early Q3 2009 at $1.35 for orders over 10,000 pieces.
