The Workstation Group, a division of Dynasoft Corp, Rosemont, Illinois has implemented IBM Corp’s ISPF user interface for MVS and VM under Unix, claiming that mainframe users that are familiar with the original environment will experience zero learning curve moving to a Unix version. Dubbed uni-SPF, the menu-based software is a complete operating environment the user can manage with a detailed knowledge of Unix. It can replace vi as a full-function editor and includes full-screen context editing, an edit and browse ring for simultaneous edit or browse of multiple files, cut and paste commands, split-screen capabilities and a dialogue test facility. The uni-SPF software includes Dialog Management Services, based on the SAA standard Dialog Management Services from IBM, enabling users to write custom menu-driven dialogues. Sites migrating from MVS-TSO and VM/CMS can move their Dialog Management applications intact. The product runs on Sun-3 and 4, the Sparcstation, Hewlett-Packard Co’s HP-UX 300, 400, 700, 800 and Domain/OS, any Santa Cruz Operation Unix or Interactive Systems 386/ix, RS/6000 and other AIX kit. Prices start at $400 for one; $700 for two.
