Oracle Corp wants people to keep its relational database in mind when they are on the move, and the company has announced two new products and done a deal with Sharp Electronics Corp to that end. It has introduced PalmLink, an Oracle Card connection that is at present available only for Sharp’s Wizard family of electronic personal organisers. PalmLink enables application developers to build connections between Oracle Card client-server applications running on Windows and Macintosh systems with Wizard. It provides linking software that integrates the Wizard internal database with Oracle. Oracle Card is a portable graphical application development environment, which uses the Oracle Access Applications Programming Interface to make high level calls for database services. PalmLink includes the PalmLink programing interface, the interface to the Sharp Wizard, examples, and documentation. PalmLink requires Oracle Card for Windows or Macintosh, and Sharp’s Link for MS-DOS or Macintosh. It is $300, the runtime system is $300 for every eight licences; it will be out in the third quarter. The other new product is Post Card, an Application Programming Interface between Card and electronic mail systems such as Oracle*Mail, Microsoft Mail and Lotus Development Corp’s cc:Mail. Post Card enables developers to build messaging and communications features into applications built with Oracle Card and will also include an application enabling users to read, send, and manage personal mail. It will also enable users to send and retrieve images, files, and electronic text. Post Card includes Oracle*Mail Access, an interactive stack to access mail systems, examples, and documentation, requires Oracle Card and associated mail software and is also $300 and $300 for every eight run-time licences from third quarter.
