A consortium comprising Alcatel Alsthom SA companies Alcatel SEL and Alcatel Teletas, plus Detecon AS, Siemens AG and Simko SA has won a contract from the Turkish PTT to build a Groupe Speciale Mobile digital cellular network, Alcatel reports: the company declined to give the value of the contract and the share each company has in the consortium, but said the team would create a new company, Telsim Mobil Telekomunikasyon Hizmetleri AS, with Turkish group Rumeli Holding AS to be capitalised at about $25m; Alcatel will be reponsible for supplying the radio part of the network and will undertake the overall network planning; it will be installed in three phases, will cover Ankara, Antalya, Izmir and Istanbul in the first phase, and is required to be completed by 1998.
