In an attempt to reverse the trend that saw the company turn in the first really disappointing figures in its history for the last two quarters, Compaq Computer Corp is said to be readying as many as a dozen new low-cost machines for release between now and the beginning of next year. Intel Corp 80386 and 80486 server systems will be among them – and all are expected to come with upgradable processor elements – though they’ll include none of the technology that is specific to the SystemPro series, itself thought to be awaiting an upgrade to support as many as four processors from the present two sometime next year.
