Crawley, Surrey-based IBM mainframe software house has a solid set of figures for the year to June 30, reporting pre-tax profits up 4% at UKP8m on sales up 22% at UKP18m. Cash levels increased by UKP4m to UKP11m. Macro gained 44% of its revenues from the VSE operating system, 22% from MVS and 34% from VM. The company operates on a policy of renting rather than selling its products – repeat orders during the year accounted for 87% of turnover, and the average monthly rental per product was reported up by 9% at UKP212. At Macro 4 Inc, costs are being controlled in an attempt to hold out in hard times – as a result, the US operation saw a double-figure growth ratio during the year. In Germany, Macro 4 GmbH still has some way to go to benefit from what the company perceives to be potentially its largest market, though the German subsidiary is profitable.
