Osaka Gas Co Ltd’s Osaka Gas Information System Research Institute Co Ltd has signed to help Rational Inc, Santa Clara, California develop the market for object-oriented software-engineering offerings in Japan. As part of the agreement, Osaka Gas has exclusive rights to sell Unix versions of Rational Rose, the Rational C++ Booch Components, and its full line of professional services, including training and consulting, in Japan, and will tailor the products and documentation to the Japanese market. Rational will train the gas company’s technical staff and professional services group in object-oriented, software-engineering techniques and the Rational Booch methodology and provide direct technical support and consulting to customers in co-operation with Osaka Gas, and the two will collaborate on development of future products. English-language versions of Rational Rose and the C++ Booch Components are available now in Japan and free upgrades to the Japanese-language version of Rational Rose will be out early next year. Rational Rose is an object-oriented analysis and design tool and Rational C++ Booch Components is a re-usable, extensible class library of structures and tools in C++ source code.
