South Korea’s electronic exports are holding up despite the recession, Reuter reports from Seoul, and in the first half of this year they totalled $9,890m, up 5.5% on the year ago figure, the Electronics Industries Association of Korea said.Exports of industrial electronics in the period rose 2.9% to $1,870m while those of electronics components, including semiconductors, increased by 12.5% to $5,190m – within that, semiconductors alone rose 22.3% to $3,390m. Shipments of home electronics couldn’t buck the worldwide slump and slid 3.8% to $2,820m. Electronics imports during the January to June period increased 5.2% to $5,720m with imports of industrial electronics coming to $1,550m, down 9.2%, while those of electronics components rose 12.8% to $3,800m; home electronics totalled $375m, an increase of 2.5%.
