Convex Computer Corp, Richardson, Texas, says the Champaign, Illinois based National Center for Supercomputing Applications has ordered an eight-processor large memory C3880 Gallium Arsenide supercomputer: a four-processor configuration of the $10m machine, which has an impressive 2Gb physical memory, will be installed in April, through an agreement with the US National Science Foundation supercomputer centre and Convex, replacing a Convex C240 currently installed at the University of Illinois centre; the remaining four processors will be added to the new installation in the second quarter, and an upgrade of the memory on the machine to 4Gb is in the schedule for next year.
