Mitsubishi Electric Automation has announced that it will introduce its new MES Interface IT appliance, a real-time factory data application, for Maximo and other IBM SOA applications.
According to the company, the new product enables low risk integration of real-time plant floor information to upper level computing applications, such as manufacturing execution systems. The product is the result of a collaboration between Mitsubishi Electric Corporation and IBM.
The new application for manufacturing reportedly enables real-time, evidence-based decision making to support production and operations improvement.
MES Interface IT requires much less integration effort at both the factory and IT levels, which is expected to reduce implementation time and risk. It is expected to handle high level of data processing and interaction.
Trayton Jay, Mitsubishi Electric Automation e-F@ctory manager, said: A key challenge to the adoption of direct factory connectivity has been the complexity and cost of integration between the manufacturing floor and business systems, which tend to structure and operate quite differently. Our new e-F@ctory product addresses this issue by simplifying the connectivity across a wide range of production assets and abstracting this equipment to the level of a service in the business SOA infrastructure. In essence the MES Interface IT enables factory equipment to speak SOA.
