British Telecommunications Plc’s David Whitehead reckons that there are now 500,000 full time telecommuters in the UK with another 1.5m part timers: the company, howeveb, takes a more conservative view than the Henley Centre for Forecasting, which has predicted that by the year 2000 there will be 10m British telecommuters – but that is only likely to come to pass and to work if employers take space in shared telecommuting offices that must be established around the country – most people need the human interaction involved in going to work.
