Xerox Corp subsidiary Xsoft is boosting its publishing product line with the Computer Automated Publishing System range from Agfa, a division of Wilmington, Massachusetts-based Miles Inc. Xsoft has signed a letter of intent to buy the software, but has not set a purchase date. The software consists of CAPS, a document composition system, and a document database management system. CAPS has automated pagination, editing and translators for the object-oriented Standardised Generalised Mark-up Language, interactive parsing and distributed network publishing. The management part copes with document storage, content and co-ordinates the editing, maintenance and production process. One of its brightest features is to enable technical publishers tomanage individual document components as well as entire documents, so that data macros can be re-used. Xsoft plans to combine the CAPS family with its own InConcert workflow software.
