Systems Center Inc, Reston, Virginia has a new software package that it says enables users to manage networks of IBM AS/400 computers centrally, and Computer Systems News says that AS/Hub offers utility and management functions designed to cut back on the number of staff that are needed to maintain networks. AS/Hub is said to enhance the capabilities of the company’s AS/Center product, which provides security, back-up and tape management scheduling for a stand-alone AS/400. Observers say that one of AS/Hub’s advantages is its ability to create system models, which enables a user to change machine scheduling and to ship those changes automatically to user sites. The AS/Hub software will be available in the US from April, and will cost betweem $1,500 and $5,000. It requires OS/400 release 2.0, AS/Center 2.1 and an Advanced Peer-to-Peer Communications network.
