Calypso Micro Products Inc of Los Gatos, California, has launched Audio Magician Plus 16-bit sound generation, a compact editing card to work with any iAPX-86-based personal computer. It is Sound Blaster- and AdLib-compatible, has programmable volume control for record and playback, and programmable sample rates from 4KHz to 22.050KHz. Computer audiophiles can record, compress, store and playback sound, speech and music. It costs around $100, plays MIDI files and has the Yamaha OPL2 11-voice FM synthesiser. Samples can be compressed and decompressed at lower bit rates. Calypso is also shipping PC Vision Pro, enabling personal computer users to watch and edit on their computer, images via television, cable or video source, and create personalised QCIF size movies, using solarisation, slow motion and overlay of text or graphics features. Costing around $500 it is an add-on board that displays real-time, full-motion television or video in a movable, sizable window. The board displays the input on any VGA or Super VGA monitor. The user can download image files in a variety of compressed formats, which can be transmitted electronically. It supports up to 16.8m colours and accepts inputs from microphone, audio, CD-ROM and Microsoft Corp Business Audio, enabling the user to mix different audio and video input sources to create custom presentations and pictures.
