Sanyo Electric Co Ltd says it may shift some of its personal computer production from Japan to Mexico as part of a scaling back of its information products activities which also sees it pulling out of the workstation business over time – the present ones remain available but no new ones are being developed; it will also move production of personal computers to affiliates at home and abroad and transfer 500 employees in the information products division to other areas such as sales and semiconductor production; the remaining business machines activities will go into a new subsidiary, Sanyo Information Business Co Ltd, to be set up on November 1; the new unit, employing 650 people, is to handle word processors, computer displays and copiers.
