The paper also follows up its story on the RS/5000 low-end VLSI version of IBM’s Unix RISC machine by saying that unlike the existing RS/6000s, which are built to order, the low-end ones are going to be built for stock. It hears they will go out via National Distribution Division volume dealer outlets as well as via the direct sales force, which presently has to bid combinations of RS/6000s and PS/2s in big networks.
