Goleta, California-based Applied Magnetics Corp has joined forces with Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing Co, 3M, for the development and production of a quarter-inch thin-film magnetoresistive head for 3Gb 3.5 minicartridge and 10Gb 5.25 tape drives: the agreement provides substantial funding for continued development of the technology and a well-defined peformance path which is targeted for tape data cartridges with 100Gb capacities by 1997.
