Illustrating that television graphics is one of the hottest application areas in the Russian market at present, Avid Technology Inc has followed Matrox Electronic systems, FAST software, Germany, Wavefront, SoftImage, TDI and Management Graphics in signing Moscow dealers. Last month Elogar Plus, Moscow, announced it has begun distribution of its Apple Quattro 950-based systems designed for television studios. A number of presentations were held at the Russian television centre, Rossijskoe Televidenie, including demonstrations of the News Cutter and AirPlay studio systems. The centre has bought three systems that are being used to prepare sports programmes and the news programme Vesti. In parallel, Moscow-based Joy Co says it already has four customers for the Avid Media Studio Pro system from Avid which enables real time video editing to be done on a system costing as little as $15,000. Television advertising is a huge growth area in Russia since there are hundreds of stations but few with much money. Moscow alone now has dozens of television advertising production houses.
