Despite earthquakes and state taxes, Tandem Computers Inc has not lost faith in California and is going into real estate, signing a letter of intent to buy office buildings and land totalling 86 acres in Cupertino to accommodate immediate expansion needs and for future growth – as well as becoming landlord to a neighbour company and to a group of merchants in a shopping development: the deal includes four buildings already occupied by Tandem, two office buildings formerly occupied by American Microsystems Inc and Aromat, one building housing a Hewlett-Packard Co department, the Vallco Village Shopping Centre – their leases will continue and three vacant lots.
