Posing a threat to the BIOS market leader, Phoenix Technologies Ltd, San Jose, California-based Chips & Dechnologies Inc has turned itself into a one-stop shop for clonemakers by coming out with a complete set of BIOS products for use with its chip sets. The first products from its new Integrated Software Operation, the initial products include BIOSes for the Chips/250, Chips/280, Neat, AT, 386/AT, EGA and VGA sets. And as new sets are introduced, the company promises new BIOS and software driver products to support them. The Chips AT BIOS products are fully compatible with the IBM AT BIOS and each includes a motherboard system BIOS, 8742 keyboard controller BIOS, 82C605 multifunction controller support and built-in set-up utilities. The OC8221 is an AT ROM BIOS that uses the capabilities of the CS8230 Neat set, and is for 80286 or 386SX processors at from 8MHz to 20MHz, and the OC8230 is specifically for 80386 machines at any speed using the CS8230. Available now, they are each $6.15 for 1,000-up. Fully compatible with IBM PS/2 products, the Chips/2 BIOS line includes CBIOS and ABIOS. Used with MS-DOS-related applications, CBIOS contains Power-on Self Test and device routines, including real mode support and single task operation. ABIOS is only for use with IBM OS/2 and contains operating system initialisation and device routines, with multi-tasking operation and full use of 80286 and 80386 address space, in both real and protected modes. The PS/2 BIOS consists of motherboard system BIOS, 8742 keyboard controller BIOS, and reference floppy with external set-up utility and diagnostic capabilities. The OC/250 is to make PS/2 50-and 60-compatibles and uses the PS/250 set, supporting 80286 or 80386SX processors at all clock speeds. Available now, it is $12.25 for 1,000-up. For Model 80 clones, the OC/280 uses the PS/280 CHIPSet, and supports 80386 processors in all clock speeds. Available now, it is $13.80 for 1,000-up. There is also a a family of graphics BIOS products for Enhanced Graphics Adaptor or Video Graphics Array standards: the OC82C451 uses the 82C451 set for VGA and is compatible with EGA, CGA, Mono and Hercules; $2.10 for 1000-up.
