Networking specialist Spider Systems Ltd of Edinburgh has announced what it reckons is the first implementation of X25 software to use AT&T’s System V Streams mechanism, although source code is not due for shipment to OEM customers for a couple of months. The development follows Spider’s earlier production of a Streams-based TCP/IP package. Spider says the product is compatible with the US Defense Data Network version of X25, and is being adapted for the variants in use in different European countries. In addition, it supports X25 over Ethernet for the UK academic community and an Internet Protocol-to-X25 router module to facilitate X25 wide-area network links between local TCP/IP networks. Spider’s sister company, Spider Networks, was responsible for the now customary network linking some 25 stands at the European Unix User Show last week.
