AST Research Inc, Irvine, California is now shipping its Mac86 8086-based co-processor for the Apple Macintosh. The board is claimed to enable the Macintosh SE to run MS-DOS applications at the same speed that an IBM XT runs them. It is reached via a Mac86 window under Multifinder, and supports the transfer of text and graphics from MS-DOS to Macintosh applications and text the other way. Several disk types are supported; the product was developed jointly with Apple itself and Phoenix Technologies Inc. No price was given for the board.
