Martin Boothman, president of the German company Linotype AG, interviewed in Tokyo by the Nippon Keizai Shimbun, says that the market for Linotype equipment has expanded significantly thanks to the appearance of Adobe Systems Inc’s PostScript page description language: in Japan, where Japanese PostScript finally emerged last year, Linotype has increased to six the number of its dealers, from just one previously; while Boothman recognises that there are a number of excellent low-end printing machine makers in Japan, he does not think that a competitor to Linotype will emerge in the near future; Linotype plans to increase the number of its products available in Japan and provide interfaces to the mainJapanese personal computers by the year-end.
