Novell has launched new ZENworks Configuration Management virtual appliance, a plug-and-play offering that integrates desktop, asset and patch management capabilities.
The company also announced a technology preview of ZENworks 11, which integrates endpoint security into a single console with systems management to help customers meet the converging needs of IT operations and security.
Novell said that ZENworks Configuration Management virtual appliance is designed to reduce the support and maintenance costs associated with endpoint management. Built with appliance-building program SUSE Studio, the ZENworks Configuration Management virtual appliance runs on a VMware ESX infrastructure and integrates desktop, asset and patch management capabilities.
The new offerings ZENworks 10 Configuration Management SP3, ZENworks 10 Patch Management SP3, ZENworks 10 Asset Management SP3, and ZENworks Application Virtualization 8 mitigates risks and provides a range of capabilities that enable customers to assess and plan their Windows 7 migrations, execute them seamlessly, and then optimise their PC environments, Novell said.
Building on Novell’s cross-platform systems management heritage, ZENworks 11 platform due out later this year, is expected to offer heterogeneous support across Windows and Linux devices, allowing companies to simplify their management and security needs with one tool.

Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management SP3, 10 Asset Management SP3, 10 Patch Management SP3 will be available on March 30, 2010 and ZENworks Application Virtualization 8 will be available in early April 2010. The ZENworks Configuration Management virtual appliance is a deployment option for customers on ZENworks 10 Configuration Management SP3.
