Visi, a data centre services and managed hosting provider, has launched Cloud Storage, a pay-as-you-go cloud offering for business customers.

The company claims that there is no need to spend capital on storage hardware with Cloud Storage and the pay-as-you go service enables businesses to pay only for the storage and data transfer used. It allows files to be accessed with WebDAV, NFS, or HTTP protocols.

According to Visi, the Cloud Storage includes features designed for businesses such as built-in data redundancy. Any file placed in the storage cloud will automatically be replicated, thus storing two copies of data in a SAS 70 Type II data centre. In addition, organisations can also choose to have data replicated additional times should additional redundancy be desired.

Jason Baker, chief technology officer of Visi, said: “Cloud Storage eliminates the architecture headaches that are related to scaling data. The virtual architecture makes it easy to scale. There’s no need to worry about adding more hard drives or storage shelves – the storage will simply be there.”

Ray Hagen, product manager of Visi, said: “Cloud storage pricing starts out at just $0.25 per gigabyte per month with no minimums or monthly contracts. This makes cloud storage perfect for temporary storage requirements as well as off-site storage, backup, disaster recovery and web 2.0 storage.”
