Embarrassed by headlines like Big Blueboo in the New York Daily News and Et tu Big Blue (no-one’s used that one yet) over its embarrassing admission that it inadvertantly passed off refurbished computers for new ones and affirmed that kit it supplied to Uncle Sam contained more than 50% US-made parts when it didn’t, IBM is looking for a little kindly publicity from the announcement that it will invest up to $25m over the next five years to help develop new and expanded child- and elderly relative-care projects for its 216,000 employees in the US.
