BABT, the British Approvals Board for Telecommunications, is to monitor the accuracy of metered call charges on the phone bills sent out by Mercury Communications Ltd and British Telecommunications Plc: it will inspect the technical integrity of the systems used by the two national telephone operators as well as looking at the accuracy of the bills; approvals procedures have been submitted to the Office of Telecommunications, which has welcomed the move as a way of assuring customers that they are being charged for phone calls correctly.
